Microgeneration
Green technologies are fast becoming a more viable option for many properties in the UK. Technologies such as solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, air and ground source heat pumps have all experienced rapid growth as the UK strives to meet its international targets in reducing carbon emissions as well as increasing the amount of heat and energy produced via renewable sources.
Local authorities and building and property management companies are often at the vanguard of new developments and are incoporating renewable technologies into the design of the build. Regulatory requirements such as the Code for Sustainable Homes is driving some development, particularly in social housing projects. Initiatives such as Feed in Tariffs (FITs) and the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) are providing the economic drivers which provides income opportunities for landlords whilst tenants can benefit from lower utility bills.
If you are considering investing in renewable technologies, make sure you use an
MCS accredited contractor. MCS accredited contractors are regularly assessed to ensure that your installation will be designed and installed to maximise the heat or energy generation expected from the system. In addition, if you are looking to get access to either the FIT or RHI, using an MCS registered contractor will be a pre-requisite.
