Apply for an ECS Gold Card through ELECSA

In partnership with the Joint Industry Board (JIB), ELECSA can offer eligible electricians the opportunity to apply for an ECS QS Gold Card.

What is the ECS Gold Card?

The Installation Electrician ECS Gold Card is for NVQ Level 3 skilled individuals who work unsupervised on the installation, commissioning and maintenance of low voltage electrical and electronic devices and appliances in a consumer's electrical installation.

The Gold Card shows that the cardholder has completed a formal industry regulated competency based qualification, which includes technical theory with practical and competency assessments.

What are the benefits of a Gold Card?

  • Increased opportunity for new work
  • Validation of qualifications and demonstration of knowledge and expertise
  • Promotion of your partnership with ELECSA
  • Proving your identity and providing client reassurance
  • Confirmation that you meet current Health & Safety standards
  • Instant recognition in the industry
  • Access to a range of added benefits to assist your business
  • Reduced price of only £35 + VAT to purchase
  • Card is valid for 3 years*

How do I apply for or renew?

ELECSA can offer Qualified Supervisors the opportunity to apply for or renew an ECS Gold Card and be recognised as an Approved Electrician (Installation Electrician) under the rules of the ECS.

Before applying for the card you must have:
  • Your national insurance number to hand
  • Successfully passed within the last two years or booked on the ECS Health & Safety test.  To book please call 0845 313 1532
  • A passport style photo** and a copy of supporting photographic identification (e.g. Driving licence or passport)
  • Read, understand and agree to meet the terms outlined within the related ELECSA ECS Gold card Terms and Conditions
* Valid subject to QS remaining at the same business and the business Trading Title remaining unchanged.  QS's who leave or are employed by a business who undertake a change in Trading Title will need to make a new application under the new business name
**Photo software is available as part of the application process, the phot must be a passport style against a plain white background

What do I need to do to be accepted?

Your application will be reviewed by our Recognised Qualification Route.

The QS applying for an ECS OS Gold Card will need to supply a UK electrotechnical Level 3 NVQ (or a formal UK electrotechnical apprenticeship). See full details on technical competence criteria here.
Any Qualified Supervisor applications made from 1st January 2019 must hold the current hold BS7671 18th Edition Qualification to be accepted

All applicants must hold an up to date ECS Health and Safety Assessment. Please call 0845 313 1532 to book yours now. Or if you hold an ECS Exemption please make sure this is uploaded as a supporting qualification and this meets the ECS Exemption requirements. More information is available here.

Note: Following a new requirement set by the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), the JIB (Joint Industry Board) are making changes to the criteria for ECS Gold Cards.

This move is in line with a more consistent approach to the issuing of cards across the entire construction sector.

From December 24 2019 ELECSA registrants will no longer be able to apply for or renew their Gold Card via the experienced qualified supervisor route (3 successful ELECSA assessments)

For those without the recognised qualification a Mature Candidate route to Gold Card is available based on existing skills and experience.  More information on this process is available here.
